History

SOUTHWEST KC MINOR HOCKEY ASSOCIATION

Southwest KC Minor Hockey Association (SWKC) was founded in 2009 as part of the Knights of Columbus Hockey Club. Formally known as St. Thomas More Hockey (STM), SWKC Hockey grew out of the dedication and commitment of our hockey families who wanted to provide children with a positive atmosphere through which to learn teamwork and the benefit of organized sport.

SWKC Hockey delivers exceptional minor hockey experiences to children and their families in southwest Edmonton at the following six levels:

  • U7 (Formally Discovery) (age 4)
  • U7 (Formally Jr Timbits) (age 5)
  • U7 (Formally Sr Timbits) (age 6)
  • U9 (Formally Novice) (Ages 7-8)
  • U11 (Formally Atom) (Ages 9-10)
  • U13 (Formally Peewee) (Ages 11-12)

Each youth hockey level has approximately 2 - 3 teams which meet weekly from September to March for practices and games. As well, we offer 3 on 3, power skating, and pre-season conditioning camps during the spring and summer months.

Knights of Columbus Hockey Club

The Knights of Columbus Hockey Club was originally formed in 1952 when St. Alphonsus Parish brought together a group of children to play parish house league hockey. In the 1956-57 season, the Edmonton Athletic Club ceased operations and was no longer part of the Edmonton Minor Hockey AA Program, opening a spot for Knights of Columbus (KC). The AA program was then sponsored by Canadian Athletic Club, Maple Leaf Athletic Club, Southside Athletic Club, and KC Hockey.

Knights of Columbus Hockey has become a staple in the City of Edmonton with over 65 years of minor hockey experience. KC Hockey is currently the only city-wide provider of organized minor hockey from Initiation (age 4-6) to Midget AAA (age 15-17) in Edmonton. KC Hockey is made up of seven separate clubs that manage and administer the House programs, and the KC Athletics Club which manages the Rep Program.

KC Hockey is founded on the belief that amateur sport teaches young people lessons that help them develop into strong athletes and grow into adults with strong character. The focus of KC Hockey is player development as part of a team, and on sportsmanship and the values that go along with athletic success: hard work, dedication, commitment and selflessness.
